Of Faith and Trust

I heard the most clarifying discussion on faith and trust the other day. It would seem like they should be interchangeable words, almost as if they’re both generic terms for believing in something. But there is incredible depth to their true meanings:

Faith is something to stand on, a basis for a belief. In most cases, faith requires scripture or a specific Word to hold onto. Almost always, faith precedes trust. For example, if you need a job, you may stand on Philippians 4:19. ‘And my God shall supply all your need according to HIS riches in glory by Christ Jesus.’ So you can take that verse and pray like this: ‘God, you know I have need of a job right now. I thank you that your Word says that You will supply my need according to the riches and resources that YOU have. I’ll do my part and prepare and I know that You are working on my behalf. I thank You for what you’re doing for me.’

And then Trust is required while you wait for your belief to materialize. As you send out resumes, wait for responses, go through the interview process, you remain in Trust … NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK LIKE! … beause of your faith in Philippians 4:19.

Trust in God needs to be firmly ESTABLISHED  in your life. As you walk along life’s path seeking an ever-deepening relationship with God, you’ll most assuredly come to a crossroad where you’ll be faced with the decision to trust Him, which by definition means you cannot see the outcome, or to trust only in yourself and what you can see, feel, or understand.

May I encourage you to choose the scary path of trust. I can tell you with all assuredness, you’ll never regret it. It certainly makes life interesting, challenging at times, but never regretful.

Wow Kim…..you read my mind today! I am likewise in ‘transition’ with my career as Mrs Teaff put it at the AFCA convention. As a global marketing strategist by trade I like to visualize how all the pieces will fit, including how my career will align to my husband’s new career of football coaching.

Well I CAN’T SEE THE OUTCOME! So I continue to have faith and draw on all the examples in my life where God just worked it all out for us…time and time again. So yes, thanks for the reminder to Trust without knowing the outcome and just keep moving forward in faith. Thanks!!!
