Rise Up…On Our Knees

Unless you’ve just landed here in America from another planet, you’re intensely aware that there is a very important election coming up on November 6. I abstain from making quippy comments about candidates, or even ‘liking’ snarky statements on Facebook. As an American citizen, I feel the political arena has become so disappointing. In my opinion, our nation’s leaders have completely lost sight of governing the people they were called to lead. And as a very concerned American citizen, I feel we need to rise up. And by rise up, I mean drop to our knees.

I am stepping into uncomfortable territory, because my whole aim in any endeavor I participate in is for all to get along famously and have fun (!!!). But this isn’t fun, and we’re not getting along. So I am asking you to join me in a fast for our country. What’s a fast, you ask? It’s the intentional surrender of eating meals for the sole purpose of prayer. I am proposing that we take both Mondays between now and election day, and forego eating until dinner. From the time you wake up until dinner time, every time you feel a twinge of hunger, let it be a reminder to you to pray for our nation and its leaders. Don’t worry about how eloquent your prayers may or may not be. How long it has been since you spoke to God is irrelevant. He longs to hear from you and isn’t the least bit concerned about your prayer delivery. In fact, you can even ask Him to allow you to feel His presence when you pray. Ask God for His perfect will to be accomplished in this election. And pray for those leaders, that they might hear and be led by the voice of God.

Will you join me on October 29 and November 5?

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14
