Through the Valley

Whenever I have ever heard about anyone in my life talking about getting fired from a job, my only internal response was 'oh my gosh, I hope I NEVER get fired!' Even though whoever is speaking about getting fired previously in their life is usually speaking from a new perch, and 99% of the time thankful for the firing, because it led them to their new and better life position, I didn't want to … [Read more...]

Christmas in the NFL

Merry Christmas! It's Tuesday before the Saturday of Christmas, and I would imagine that 98% of workplaces around the globe are dialing down the deadlines, and dialing up plans for the Holiday parties. NFL teams would fall into the 2% of workplaces that will see no let-up in responsibilities as we approach December 25. If we're not careful, we can let Christmas celebrations get completely … [Read more...]

My Christmas List

One of the little joys of the season is rushing to the mailbox every day. This time of year it's filled with holiday greetings and family photos with letters that catch us up on an entire year. Our house is set up from the road a bit, so each afternoon when I make my way down the driveway slope to grab all of the mail that fills the box to overflowing, and then make my way back up the hill, I'm … [Read more...]

Behind the Scenes

It's not quite the top-secret 'Barbara Walters Most Interesting Person of the Year', or the People Magazine Sexiest Man of the Year, but there has been a certain level of buzz and enthusiasm for our annual Christmas card and letter. I think the excitement began several years back when I was still of child-bearing age, and I'm told the readers of our letter would scroll down to the bottom of the … [Read more...]

Giving Back

As we officially begin the holiday season with Thanksgiving this weekend, many of us look for opportunities to help members of our community that are in need. As an organization, the 49ers are incredibly generous, and virtually every Tuesday during the season, many of the players spend their day off at organized events throughout the Bay Area. Today was no exception. The team organized our … [Read more...]

Sacrifices and Rewards

As parents, we rarely think about getting rewarded for the sacrifices we make for our kids. Or, at least, the reward isn't the motivation for the sacrifices we make. For instance, when you spend most of the night cleaning up after, consoling and rocking a toddler with an upset stomach, that moment when they finally fall asleep cuddly and fresh-smelling in your lap makes it all worthwhile. The … [Read more...]

Buh-Bye

Earlier this week we said goodbye to London, and goodbye to my girlfriends. I'm not sure I can put into words the wonderful time we had. Usually, when five women get together, it would be safe to expect some level of drama, or pouting, or just plain annoyance. But not this time. We must have all been in need of a vacation, because we simply had a spectacular time together. Here are a few more … [Read more...]

That’s What Friends Are For

Sunday night I left a very dejected 49er team as they boarded a chartered flight to London and headed to Detroit. I picked up the girlfriends that would ultimately join me for an incredible opportunity to enjoy an overseas getaway in the middle of fall. In life, there are many different kinds of friendships. Not all of the friends that cross our paths are meant to be around forever, but this … [Read more...]

Doing Battle

Today was a day of battle. We've actually been battling for the last 5 weeks on the football field, and coming up dreadfully short. It doesn't really matter if you lose by 2 points in the last 2 seconds or if you lose by 14 and the game is completely out of hand for a while. Losing hurts. And when losses pile up in any endeavor, it starts to take a toll mentally. So, today we had to overcome a … [Read more...]

This Guy…

may be one of the most misunderstood people in all of sports. Probably because you usually see him looking like this: But I know him best like this: He's celebrating a birthday, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to let you in on the lesser-known side of him: He's fiercely loyal, Contagiously optimistic, A loud clapper, An excellent dancer...and while we're at it, has … [Read more...]
